The nearest international airport would be Xishuangbanna.. IINM. There are flights connecting from BKK via Kunming. I remember seeing at BKK DMK airport announcements for flights heading to Xishuangbanna.

This cowboy border town sound a bit like Danok on Msia-Thai border opposite side of Bukit Kayu Hitam, where all the underworld guys hang about..

Make no mistake this border town administered by a rebel warlord in his 60s and assisted by his son is even more hardcore than border town Dannok (Sadao)!

Dannok is also one of my favourite haunts in Thailand.
A lot of Myanmar Chinese SYTs at KPK area.
All can speak Mandarin.
